As the sun set over Little Somerford in August 2018, the fields once again came alive with the sound of music, laughter, and the hum of a community coming together.
Fieldview Festival returned for another unforgettable weekend, this time inspired by the theme “The Natural World.” With sustainability at the heart of everything we do, this year’s theme felt more important than ever, and it rippled through the site, the art, the workshops, and the incredible performances.
From the moment the gates opened, there was a tangible energy in the air. This wasn’t just a music festival. It was a celebration of connection: to the earth, to each other, and to the creative spirit that binds us all.
One Hell Of A Lineup (Again!)
As always, the music didn’t disappoint. Fieldview has built its reputation on eclectic and quality programming, and 2018 was no exception.
The Mouse Outfit brought their trademark blend of hip hop and jazz, delivering one of the most talked-about sets of the weekend. Their groove-heavy beats and lyrical fire set the tone for a weekend of genre-defying brilliance.
Jenna and the Gs tore up the stage with their powerful vocals and high-energy mix of soul, funk, and drum and bass, proving once again that they’re one of the most exciting live acts on the UK circuit.
Jono McCleery provided a moment of calm, weaving his hauntingly beautiful voice through acoustic soundscapes that felt perfectly at home among the trees and open skies.
In contrast, The Blinders delivered a thunderous dose of politically charged rock ‘n’ roll, electrifying the crowd with their intense and cathartic performance.
Then there was Oh My God! It’s The Church, bringing the gospel of good times with their outrageous, sermon-meets-disco set that left everyone dancing, laughing, and slightly dazed.
Afrikan Boy brought raw energy and serious stage presence with his fusion of grime, afrobeat, and lyrical wit. It was an explosive set that stuck in the memory.
And Song of Kong closed things out with a hypnotic, bass-driven journey that sent us into the night on a high, surrounded by friends, lights, and the rustle of the field around us.
More Than Just Music
True to this year’s theme, the festival grounds were transformed into an ode to the natural world. Workshops on sustainable living, wild foraging, permaculture, and nature-inspired crafts gave everyone a chance to learn, create, and connect. Art installations built from reclaimed and organic materials dotted the site, offering constant reminders of the beauty in balance.
Kids and grown-up kids explored forest school sessions, storytelling circles, and yoga under the trees. Food traders served up local and ethical treats, and Fieldview’s ongoing commitment to reducing waste was more visible than ever, from reusable cups to composting loos.
A Community Rooted in Purpose
Perhaps the most powerful part of Fieldview 2018 was the people. The volunteers, the artists, the attendees — every single person brought something to the field. This isn’t a festival built on big names or corporate sponsorship. It is a not-for-profit, community-driven celebration of creativity, sustainability, and joy. Every ticket bought and every pint pulled helps support positive environmental and social change.
Fieldview 2018 reminded us of our roots and the wild, beautiful world we’re lucky to share.
